Start

Anderson Ranch

You start and finish at Anderson Ranch, owned and operated by the Spokane Tribal Department of Natural Resources. Leave the ranch, follow the highway a short way, and turn onto Carpenter Road. It's gravel, and it climbs.

About 4 miles

First aid

You leave the gravel for a side road, pass through the scar of the 2015 Carpenter Road Fire, and come back into the trees. You might see elk. Supplies here are limited, so take a breath before the steep climb.

About 8.5 miles

Up toward the lookout

The road is washed out and follows a draw up toward the Westend Lookout. There can be water on the trail. Watch your step, and don't drink it unless you've filtered it. There should be enough at the aid stations that you don't need to. Stay left at the junction and keep climbing. Poles help. You'll see the Spokane River, then the Columbia, and you can look down at the start.

About 12.5 miles

Westend Lookout

There's an aid station at the lookout. Eat, drink, then head back down the same roads to Anderson Ranch.

Course map climbing to the Westend Tower and returning toward the start.

Aid is around 4 miles, 8.5 miles, and 12.5 miles.
